Description
The PaSS-IoT project proposes the development of a testbed for future implementations of security mechanism and applications for Internet-of-Things. Unlike currently available solutions, the integration of several standardised communication protocols for IoT will be taken into account, as well as securing them, by developing lightweight encryption algorithms optimised for different computer architectures. In order to realise this system, several approaches will be undertaken, like implementing on a single- or multi-processor system, implementing on a dual FPGA+processor type architecture or implementing on a legacy computer system (x86). More importantly, the proposed testbed is targeted to be modular and scalable such that it can be extended in the future to potential new scientific domains.
Scientific Objectives
The scientific objectives of the project is to design and develop a testbed for future implementations of security mechanism and applications for Internet-of-Things.
The first scientific objective (SO1) is to develop an IoT gateway type node that allows not only a simple connection and routing of the data coming from sensors or other connected devices, but also a customizable filtering of this data, with the purpose of reducing the processing burden at the sensor level for future implementations of security mechanism and applications for Internet-of-Things.
The second scientific objective (SO2) is to implement a set of current lightweight encryption algorithms within the IoT gateway node such that performance and compatibility tests can be run and they can be optimised for different architectures.
The third scientific objective (SO3) is to develop software applications for performance testing, both of the testbed and the implemented lightweight cryptographic algorithms.
